Half-day Seminar in Portland to Explore New Business Models for Music Pros

Los Angeles–May 8, 2004 -- Every band is a brand, whether they know it or not. With the cataclysmic changes rocking through the record industry, music businesses and artists alike are reinventing themselves in order to build successful careers. New business models are emerging. Music Business Chops, a series of afternoon seminars touring the West Coast in May, addresses these issues from a practical business perspective tailored to the needs of music and pro audio professionals. The West Coast Spring Tour will make a stop in Portland, Friday, May 21st at Lola's, 12:30pm-6:30pm. Venue is all ages.

Presented by GC Pro (GuitarCenter’s professional division), Music Business Chops’ afternoon seminars are facilitated by management coach John Stiernberg, author of Succeeding in Music. He’s joined by an array of music industry professionals, from record producers and music supervisors to project and commercial studio operators. Topics of discussion include how to find a place in the newer revenue sources, such as in gaming and ringtones, as well as the powerful independent artist's movement, and its effects on the new legal needs of songwriters’ licensing and publishing.

Scheduled guest speakers for the seminar include:

Dave Allen, co-owner of OEbase.com, leader of rock/DJ/experimental band Squall

Terry Currier, Music Millenium and Burnside Distribution

Art Alexakis, Everclear

Mark Baumgarten, Music Editor, Willamette Week

Jim Brunberg, musician, owner Mississippi Studios

Bart Day, entertainment attorney

Tony Van Veen, Vice President, Disc Makers

One-on-one demo evaluations by record producers, and mentoring by industry veterans, will be available; as well as a
